This is essentially a slow-motion demolition process. Each cycle widens tiny cracks in the paint film until a full peel is inevitable.

Humid Summers and Snowmelt Season

Twin Cities summers bring real humidity, and spring snowmelt saturates the ground and siding for weeks at a time. Both conditions push moisture into wood siding, trim, and fascia boards, especially on the north-facing side of a house where things dry out more slowly.

Peeling caused by interior moisture is often easy to identify: it tends to show up near bathrooms, kitchens, or laundry rooms, and the wood underneath is frequently damp or discolored.

2. Inadequate Surface Preparation Before the Last Paint Job

If a painter applied a new coat over dirt, chalky residue, or old flaking paint without proper surface prep, the new paint never actually bonded to the surface — it bonded to loose debris that was always going to let go.
